Solid Waste Management app

Solid-waste management, the collecting, treating, and disposing of solid material that is discarded because it has served its purpose or is no longer useful. Poor waste management – ranging from non-existing collection systems to ineffective disposal -causes air pollution, water and soil contamination. Open and unsanitary landfills contribute to contamination of drinking water and can cause infection and transmit diseases. Poor waste collection leads to environmental and marine pollution and can block water drains. Resulting flooding and other standing waters in waste items favour cholera and vector-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue. The NIC Udupi has developed SWM app for tracking the collection of solid wastes on regular basis in all the GPs. This helps in keeping track of the quantity of solid wastes generated in all the grama panchayaths of Udupi district.
